Serial startup founder and investor
Companies: After a stint in improvisational comedy in Chicago, Dick Costolo turned to a career in technology, starting several companies and helping turn Twitter into one of the world’s most influential social networks. Early in his career, he founded Burning Door Networked Media, a web design and development company; SpyOnIt, a web page monitoring service; and FeedBurner, a web feed management provider that was acquired by Google. More recently, Costolo is an investor in about.me, a personal web hosting service.
Executive service: When Google acquired FeedBurner in 2007, Costolo became a Google executive. He joined Twitter as chief operating officer in 2009, and became its CEO on a temporary basis in 2010. However, the position soon became permanent.
